Ophthalmologist in Oak Ridge TN

Dr. Timothy P. Powers, a board-certified ophthalmologist and eye surgeon, graduated from the Quillen-Dishner College of Medicine in 1988. He completed residencies in anatomic pathology at the University of Tennessee Medical Center and ophthalmology at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he also completed a fellowship in ophthalmic pathology. Joining The Eye Centers in 1995, Dr. Powers has been performing LASIK since 1997. He is on the medical staff of The Eye Surgery Center of Oak Ridge and Methodist Medical Center. An Assistant Professor of ocular pathology at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Dr. Powers has contributed to scientific publications and ophthalmology textbooks. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of several professional organizations. Dr. Powers resides in Claxton, Tennessee, with his wife, Billy Von, and their children, John Paul and Grace.

Dr. David D. Hessert, a board-certified ophthalmologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, will join our practice in July 2023. He has served in the U.S. Navy since 2002, currently as Chief of Naval Aerospace Ophthalmology at Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida. Dr. Hessert, a native of Wausau, Wisconsin, received his bachelor’s degree from The College of William & Mary and his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He completed his internal medicine internship and ophthalmology residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. He specializes in cataract, LASIK, and eyelid surgeries. Dr. Hessert and his family enjoy traveling, cooking, kayaking, skiing, and hiking in the Smoky Mountains, and they are excited to make Tennessee their home after 21 years of moving.
